Remington 700 ADL

I traded a pistol for this Remington 700 ADL in .270 Winchester. It was listed used at a gun show for $389 and we worked out a trade. It came with a Simmons 3x9 40mm 8-Point Scope on it. My first session at the range went pretty well. It was about 18" low and off to the right but the adjustments seemed to work fine. After getting the first shot near center I put up a new target and shot the following group:

After this session I took the gun Boar hunting and shot a nice boar. I had heard a lot of concern about Simmons scopes, that they might not last, so when I could I upgraded to a Leupold Vari-X III in 3.5-10 with a 40mm objective. I moved the Simmons to a Ruger 10/22 and to be fair it's been working fine. Sighting in with the new scope I shot the target below with the group of 3 measuring 1/2" at 100 yards.

After doing a lot of bench rest shooting with the rifle I realized the trigger was really heavy. I took it to my gunsmith and had him bring it down to three pounds. After the trigger job I went back to the range and shot the group below, my best to date with this or any rifle.

I shot several sub-inch groups at this session but this was the best by far measuring 7/16". I couldn't be happier with this rifle. It seems to shoot well with anything I put through it. Mostly it's been Winchester Power Points but it's also done well with Federal Premium w/Barnes XLC and PMP (south african ammo) all in 130gr bullets. After buying a nicer rifle (Sauer 202 Supreme in .300 Win Mag) I moved the Leupold scope to that rifle and put a used Swarovski fixed 6x on the ADL. So, back to the range to sight in the Swarovski scope:

This is about what I can do regularly with the ADL now with the Swarovski 6x scope. I'm also now using a lightweight Harris Bi-Pod. This group is just a hair over 3/4" . Lately I'm using the gun to practice field positions for hunting and those groups range from 4-8" however my first shot cold from a rest always seems to be right on target.

Here is the recovered 140gr accubond from my 2005 blacktail hunt.

Here is the prep target for my 11/06 mule deer hunt in Colorado with 130gr Barnes triple shocks. One fouling shot and then a 7/8" group.
